Ecomuseo - "A mirror in which people watching. Experience of man and nature. An expression ofthe time. An interpretation of space. " Hugues de Varine
What is an Eco-museum
The Eco-museum is responsible to protect, restore and enhance all areas of life, traditional, artistic and historical riches and natural heritage that characterize a territory.
Objective is to give space to the community in search of his recent or remote past, putting the spotlight not only the objects of everyday life, but also landscapes, architecture, ancient knowledge and oral traditions .
In fact, it also deals with the promotion of educational activities and research focusing on the direct involvement of the whole population and local institutions. The Eco-museum can then be defined as a "museum made by the Community for the Community ", as the first users of this museum are just the inhabitants of the territory.
Creating an Eco-museum can be considered an act of love of the local population to its territory.
The origins of the Ecomuseums ('70 of 1900) were designed as instruments for the protection and appreciation of the tracks of rural society, as it was realized that the new urban development, social change and the introduction of new technology threatening to wipe out all knowledge of the farmer who was passing from generation to generation for millennia.
The first who spoke of the concept of Eco-museum was Hugues de Varine during a meeting with Georges Henri Rivière, respectively, at that time director and former director permanent of the ICOM council (The International Council of Museums), and Serge Antoine, Minister Counsellor Environment francesca.
Ecomuseum means: territory, population, participation.
