The village of Ficulle is located on a ridge overlooking the Val di Chiana Romana, and is surrounded by green woods. The village, known in medieval times under the name of Castrum Ficulis, is inside the medieval walls within which it develops into an intricate maze of alleys and piazzatte, with old houses, all dominated by two medieval towers.

Valuable monuments of the village of Ficulle are the church of Santa Maria Vecchia, built outside the city walls around 1200 and a pediment decorated with Gothic frescoes, the Church of Santa Maria Nuova, within the walls of the village, and the complex Castel Maggiore.
Not far from Ficulle on the road to Orvieto, there is the Castello della Sala, a splendid example of medieval architecture of XII century, which belonged to the noble family of Orvieto Monaldeschi.
Ficulle is the traditional symbol of clay: pottery clay (turned and baked in a wood) decorated with glazed strokes or spots, dark green and ocher. The production is mainly characterized by pitchers, jugs, dishes and pots and jars, memorabilia in their forms the old peasant habits.
