From the finds of Etruscan and Roman times it is thought that the village of Montegabbione has very ancient origins. From the perspective of historical fact, are in the area of systems such as fortresses of Montegiove and of Castel di Fiori.
The villageis enclosed by solid walls that hold to a medieval street structure to map orthogonal square in the center and towers.
In 1300 Montegabbione was feud of the Monaldeschi family of Orvieto, but after that period of government of Ugolino di Montemarte, the village came under the domain of Perugia. Outside the walls you can visit the exquisite church of the Madonna delle Grazie and in the town of Montegiove, the Franciscan Monastery and the utopian city of Scarzuola with the creations of architect Tommaso Buzzi.
In the area of Montegabbione there is also a Lombard necropolis, situated on the height called Poggio della Croce, where many tombs were found with multiple statements included in a sacred enclosure: this site attests to the evidence of Lombard presence in this territory for V and VI centuries AD
