At a height of 500m above sea level on the hills between Orvieto and Città della Pieve, is the medieval village of Monteleone d'Orvieto. Large green areas are a significant element of attraction: you can see from the main town of the Val di Chiana and the profile of Monte Cetona and Monte Amiata. It was perhaps for this privileged position that the people of Orvieto shortly after 1000 chose to protect the northern borders of their domain building Monteleone.
